NBA Discord bot — live NBA scores in your server
Updated
Layup posts live NBA scores into a Discord channel at no cost: all 30 teams, every game from preseason through the Finals, updated every five seconds, with the WNBA's 15 clubs as a second filter. Two slash commands set it up. Free, with no account and no paid tier.
Free. Manage Server on the server you pick, and nothing else.
Which NBA games does Layup cover?
Layup covers every game on the NBA schedule for all 30 clubs and every game on the WNBA's for all 15, from the first preseason tip in October to the last game of the Finals, polling each live game every five seconds. Basketball has two professional filters under it, league:nba and league:wnba, and any of the 45 clubs can be a filter on its own. A channel scoped to a league sees every game in it; a channel scoped to a club sees only that club, in more detail. Coverage is read from the provider's active-team list at startup rather than typed once, so an expansion franchise or a relocation arrives without a release on our side, which is how the two 2026 WNBA expansion clubs are already on the list below. Each filter is a value you can scope a channel to:
| Filter | What it follows | Value |
|---|---|---|
| NBA | All 30 clubs, six divisions, listed below. | league:nba |
| WNBA | All 15 clubs, both conferences, including the two 2026 expansion franchises. | league:wnba |
College basketball is a separate sport in the bot's eyes and has its own page: league:ncaab and thirty-two conference filters that share nothing with these two.
Does it cover preseason, the play-in and the playoffs?
All of them, because the bot never asks. Each poll fetches the day's games by date and applies no season-type filter, so an October preseason game posts exactly the way a June Finals game does — the provider lists it for the date, the feed picks it up. The play-in, the playoffs and the WNBA Commissioner's Cup ride the same path with no special handling; the only thing that changes is the calendar.
What an NBA alert looks like
A score post carries both clubs in their colours, the score, the quarter and clock — Q1 to Q4, Half at the break, OT and OT2 beyond — and a footer with the live line on it. The start post is labelled Tip-Off and carries each team's record; the final is tagged regulation or overtime and names each side's top two scorers.
✓ DEN -6.5 • U 224.5 • NBADenver are covering the 6.5 at that moment and the game is still under 224.5. A basketball total moves fast — twenty points a quarter is ordinary — so the footer is recomputed from the live score every poll rather than printed once at tip. The same footer sits on every sport's posts and is described once, on the home page.
How do I add NBA scores to my Discord server?
You need Manage Server, and the command runs in the channel you want the scores in — a feed belongs to one channel, which is what lets an NBA channel and a WNBA channel coexist:
/layup add league:nbaSwap nba for wnba for the other league, or set the team option instead to follow one club. Both fields autocomplete, and basketball's abbreviations collide with the other sports — TOR and PHI each belong to six clubs across the bot, the Raptors and the 76ers among them — so the suggestion reads Celtics · Basketball · NBA rather than the bare key, and picking it is what settles the league. The setup guide has the authorisation screen with screenshots and the command reference documents every option.
Two commands and you're done. No dashboard.
Which alerts fire during an NBA game?
Feeds post six categories of event, set per feed by its preset or its scope. Mapped to what actually happens in a basketball game:
| Alert type | In an NBA game |
|---|---|
| Play-by-play | Tip-off, the end of each quarter (the second's is the halftime break), the start of overtime, and the final with the top scorers on it. Not baskets — the box score already has those. |
| Momentum | Scoring runs, lead changes, comebacks, blowouts, and clutch time — a close game inside its last two minutes, once per game. |
| Milestones | A player reaching 20 points and every 10 after, and triple-doubles — double figures in three of points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. |
| Betting | The total going over, a player going over their points line, and a player closing within two of it. Outcomes, not picks; details on the alert types page. |
| Scoring | Nothing. A made basket is not an alert in basketball; the runs and the milestones are. |
| Penalties | Nothing. Penalty alerts exist in hockey and soccer only. |
Betting alerts need a scope. A bare /layup add posts play-by-play and nothing else; naming basketball, a league or a club switches the betting category on with the rest.
Can I follow just the fourth quarter?
Not literally — the bot posts a game as it happens, not a window of it — but the setting that gets closest is the one a league feed already has. Scoped to league:nba, a feed posts every category and notifies on Big Plays only: the dramatic tier, which is where the fourth-quarter alerts live. Clutch time fires when the margin is five or fewer with two minutes or less on the clock in the fourth or overtime, exactly once per game, and it is loud. A comeback alert fires when a team that trailed by fifteen ties or leads. A blowout fires when the margin reaches twenty-five in the second half and clears again if it falls back under fifteen, so a garbage-time channel goes quiet on its own.
Set notifications to Game Start & End and the same feed pings for tip-off and the final only, which for a ten-game night is twenty pings and no more; set it to Silent and it posts everything and pings for nothing. Step 5 of the setup guide lists the five modes.
The numbers Layup uses to decide an NBA game got interesting
Every momentum and milestone alert is a fixed threshold in the NBA handler, and the WNBA handler carries its own set — smaller for the pace-driven ones, identical for the possession-driven ones, because a possession is worth the same in both leagues.
| Alert | Fires at |
|---|---|
| NBA scoring run | 10 unanswered points |
| NBA blowout margin | 25, from the 2nd half on |
| NBA comeback deficit | 15 |
| NBA clutch time | Q4/OT, margin ≤5, ≤2:00 left |
| NBA prop hot zone | within 2.0 points of the line |
| NBA/WNBA player milestone floor | 20 points, every 10 after |
| NBA/WNBA triple-double | 10+ in 3 of 5 stat categories |
| WNBA scoring run | 8 unanswered points |
| WNBA blowout margin | 20, from the 2nd half on |
| WNBA comeback deficit | 12 |
| WNBA clutch time | Q4/OT, margin ≤5, ≤2:00 left (unscaled from NBA) |
| WNBA prop hot zone | within 2.0 points of the line (unscaled from NBA) |
The milestone slug in the bot's registry still says forty; the detector has fired at twenty for a long time, and it posts the single highest new threshold a player crossed since the last poll rather than one alert per ten.
Every NBA and WNBA team Layup follows
All 45, grouped the way the leagues group them, each with the exact team value to type. The list is generated from the bot's own startup load, so it is what the autocomplete offers, not a copy of it. Every other feed's list is on the teams page.

NBA Discord bot FAQ
- Can I follow one NBA team only?
- Yes. Run /layup add and start typing the club in the team option — pick it from the list and the sport comes with it. A team feed applies no category filter and notifies on everything, so it is the loudest scope the bot has: one team, all of it.
- Does it cover the WNBA?
- Yes, as its own league filter: league:wnba, with all 15 clubs including the 2026 expansion sides in Toronto and Portland. The alerts are the same family as the NBA feed with thresholds tuned to WNBA scoring — an 8-point run instead of 10, a 20-point blowout instead of 25.
- Which player props does it track?
- Points only — the Over side of each player’s full-game points line. When a player goes over, the feed posts it; when they are within two points of the line, it posts a hot-zone alert first. There are no rebounds, assists or threes props, and lines at 0.5 are skipped.
- Is 82 games a season going to bury my channel?
- Not on a league feed. Scoped to the whole NBA, a feed posts every category but only pings on the big plays; on a slate of ten games that is tip-offs, finals and the runs, comebacks and clutch finishes, not every basket. Silent mode keeps the posts and stops the pings altogether.
- Is it free?
- Free, with no paid tier. Run an NBA feed in one channel and a WNBA feed in another; nothing is metered and there is no account to create.
Other sports Layup covers
The college basketball Discord bot page covers the other half of the sport, with conference filters and an upset watch the pro game cannot have. The NHL Discord bot and the MLB Discord bot pages cover the two leagues that share the calendar, and the setup guide covers the install itself.
Free, no limits. Add it before opening night.
