College basketball Discord bot — live NCAAB scores in your server
Updated
Layup posts live college basketball scores into a Discord channel at no cost: every Division I men's conference as its own filter, 365 schools you can follow individually, March Madness as a filter of its own, updated every five seconds. Two slash commands set it up. Free, with no account and no paid tier.
Free. Manage Server on the server you pick, and nothing else.
Which college basketball games does Layup cover?
Every Division I men's game the provider lists. Under college basketball sit 34 filters: the whole sport, the tournament filter, and 32 conferences — each of which can scope a channel on its own.
| Filter | Value |
|---|---|
| All college basketball | league:ncaab |
| March Madness — any game carrying a tournament id | league:march-madness |
| One conference | league:big-ten, league:sec… — every key is in the table further down |
The honest boundary: three conferences the bot knows by name — Independents, the MAAC and the WAC — are missing from this list, because the provider's conference hierarchy carries no members for them this season. Rather than offer a filter that would accept the command and post nothing, the bot leaves them out of the autocomplete until the provider staffs them. Women's college basketball is not covered at all.
Does it cover the conference tournaments and March Madness?
Yes, and it treats them as one thing. Any game the provider tags with a tournament id is routed to the march-madness filter — conference tournaments in early March and the NCAA Tournament after them — with no code telling the two apart, so a channel scoped to that filter goes live for Championship Week and stays live through the Final Four. Regular-season games arrive the way every other sport's do: the bot fetches the day's slate by date with no season-type filter and posts what it finds.
What a college basketball alert looks like
A score post carries both schools in their colours, the score, the half — H1, H2, OT — and a footer with the live line on it. The start post is labelled Tip-Off; the final names each side's top two scorers.
✓ DUKE -6.5 • O 145.5 • NCAABDuke are covering the 6.5 at that moment and the game has gone past 145.5. College totals sit well under the NBA's, so a single run moves the number, and the footer is recomputed from the live score every poll. The footer sits on every sport's posts and is described once, on the home page.
How do I add college basketball scores to my Discord server?
You need Manage Server, and the command runs in the channel you want the scores in — a feed belongs to one channel, which is what makes a per-conference layout work:
/layup add league:ncaabncaab is the whole sport. Swap it for a conference key — big-east, sec — and the channel narrows to that conference, or set the team option to follow one school. Basketball's conference keys are bare where football's carry a cfb- prefix, and a school that fields both sports under one conference name shows up twice in the autocomplete, which is why the suggestion reads Penn State · Basketball · Big Ten Conference when you have not already picked a sport. The setup guide has the authorisation screen with screenshots and the command reference documents every option.
Two commands and you're done. No dashboard.
Which alerts fire during a college basketball game?
Feeds post six categories of event, set per feed by its preset or its scope. Mapped to what actually happens in a college game:
| Alert type | In a college game |
|---|---|
| Play-by-play | Tip-off, halftime, the start of overtime, and the final with the top scorers on it. |
| Momentum | Eight unanswered points, lead changes, a twelve-point deficit erased, a twenty-point margin in the second half, clutch time inside the last four minutes of a four-point game — and upset watch, which is tournament-only. See below. |
| Milestones | A player reaching 20 points and every 10 after, and triple-doubles. |
| Betting | The total going over, a player going over their points line, and a player within two of it. Outcomes, not picks; details on the alert types page. |
| Scoring | Nothing. A made basket is not an alert in basketball; the runs and the milestones are. |
| Penalties | Nothing. Penalty alerts exist in hockey and soccer only. |
Betting alerts need a scope. A bare /layup add posts play-by-play and nothing else; naming basketball, a conference or a school switches the betting category on with the rest.
Upset watch — the seed-based one
The college football feed has an upset watch that reads the polls. Basketball's reads the bracket: in a seeded tournament game, when the team seeded at least four spots worse is leading in the second half, it fires once and never repeats. Outside a tournament there are no seeds and it cannot fire, which is what makes the march-madness filter the one to scope a bracket channel to. It lands in the Momentum category at the dramatic tier, so a feed on the Big Plays default pings for it.
Can I follow one conference instead of all 360 schools?
Yes, and it is the lever that makes a college basketball channel liveable. A weeknight in January has sixty-plus Division I games; scoped to league:ncaab, a feed posts every category but pings only on the big plays, and scoped to one conference it carries eight to eighteen schools' games and nothing else. Splitting a server by conference is one run of the same command per channel.
Within a channel, volume follows scope: a school-scoped feed applies no category filter and pings on everything, on the reasoning that if you named one school you want all of it. Leaving the notifications option off is what picks between them; step 5 of the setup guide lists the five modes if you want to override it.
The numbers Layup uses to decide a college game got interesting
College basketball's thresholds are the NBA's scaled down to two halves and a slower pace: eight for a run instead of ten, twenty for a blowout instead of twenty-five, and a wider clutch window.
| Alert | Fires at |
|---|---|
| Scoring run | 8 unanswered points |
| Blowout | 20-point margin, 2nd half or later |
| Comeback alert | 12-point deficit erased |
| Clutch time | within 4 points, 4 minutes left |
| Prop hot zone | within 2 points of the line |
| Upset watch seed gap | 4+ seeds apart |
| Upset watch window | 2nd half only, once per game |
| Player scoring milestone | every 10 points from 20+ |
| Triple-double | 10+ in 3 of 5 categories |

College basketball Discord bot FAQ
- Can I follow one conference instead of all 360 schools?
- Yes — that is what the conference filters are for. league:big-ten in one channel, league:acc in another, and each channel carries its conference and nothing else. Following college basketball broadly gets every game; a conference filter narrows it to that conference’s games.
- Does it cover March Madness?
- Yes, and as its own filter: league:march-madness matches every game the provider tags with a tournament id. That includes the conference tournaments as well as the NCAA Tournament — the bot does not tell the two apart. Upset watch, the seed-based alert, fires only in those games.
- What about mid-majors and the women’s game?
- Every Division I men’s conference the provider staffs is a filter, mid-majors included — 32 of them this season, each resolving real schools. A conference the provider lists no members for gets no filter, so nothing in the autocomplete is a dead end. Women’s college basketball is not covered; there is no filter for it and no plan the bot can make on its own.
- Why does the SEC filter give me basketball here and football on the other page?
- Because they are different keys. Basketball conferences are bare — sec, acc, big-ten — and football’s carry a prefix — cfb-sec. Both come back from the same autocomplete, so when you have not picked a sport the suggestion reads Penn State · Basketball · Big Ten Conference to tell them apart.
- Is it free?
- Free, with no paid tier and no account. A channel per conference across a dozen channels is fine; nothing is metered.
Other sports Layup covers
The NBA Discord bot page covers the professional half of the sport, the college football Discord bot page covers the other campus sport with the other upset watch, and the setup guide covers the install itself.
